Mainly because it introduced people to online first person shooters. Lets not forget Warcraft 2 and warcraft 3, Command and Conquer - the entire series. Even though doom 3 was a good game, I disagree that it is in the top 10. Even though counter-strike started out as a half-life modification, maybe it should be included in the list, or at least honorable mention.
