I just purchased a 19” samsung LCD monitor and i had terrible problem with flickering with my 1440×900 resolution.
Flickering can be terrible as this can cause headaches and other irritating problems. Just set your monitor refresh rate to 75hz and you will see the flickering disappear at that resolution.
I read somewhere that 19” monitors work with 16:10 aspect ratio unlike the standard 16:9 widescreen format. The resolutions you set had to follow them.
To change the the resolution you intend, go to display settings and see if you can find the optimal resolution listed, if not you have to create your cusom resolution with the software that comes with graphics driver. I had no problem in adding my custom resolution from my nvidia graphics driver software.

Hi there, I have just now come across your blog whilst searching around online as I’m searching for some info on LCD TVs!. I think it’s a very interesting site so I bookmarked your site and I intend to revisit tomorrow to give it a proper look when I’m more free.
