Fast Website Loading with OpenDNS - Alternative to ISPs DNS Servers
Internet, Linux/Unix Add comments
When you type a website name in the browser where often the sites dont load fast. You will see in the status bar of the browser “looking up website.com”, which often means the DNS server (resolves hostnames to IP address) is slow causing such a long time to connect to website in your home PC.
If your ISPs DNS server is down which often causes “connection timed out” or host unreachable and this problem may be for for hours until gets fixed by your ISP. Its significantly speeds up fast loading of website.
Alternative….is go for other third party dns resolving service. Its not only fast and
Its OpenDNS.com Its free!
Just register get the
- two ip addresses
and you will need to enter that in your network settings.
Double click on your internet connection > Properties > TCP/IP Settings > Alternative DNS Servers
OR
Goto > Start > Control Panel > Network > Your ISP connection > Properties > TCP/IP
Finally the advantage is…
- Speeds up loading of websites you surf!
- You will be able to access websites when your ISPs DNS is down
I am using opendns and its way faster than my ISPs DNS service (BSNL dataone)

Actually you don’t need to register with OpenDNS to use the service, only to take advantage of the additional ‘dodgy’ website filtering and other features. I use OpenDNS over my ISP’s shockingly crappy DNS. I love it. Pretty impressed all in all.
