The how-to above is a bit misleading. The best way to set the font appearance is to download the “ClearType Tuning” program from Microsoft’s website. Once installed, it will appear under Control Panel. In my Windows XP, once I have tuned the cleartype using this software, all the fonts in browsers, Outlook 2009, Microsoft Office and other software look very good. In fact, I was surprised how good this program is.
