Guitar not for left handers?

I am not a music pro and recently i walked into the music store and purchased an acoustic guitar for $80. I am a left hander and i started learning guitar lessons in youtube and other sites and it all became upside down to play chords since i am using right handed guitar in my left hand. Most music books and teachings were written for right handed guitars in mind and so it is way too difficult to play the notes.

I have seen in many forums, where people talked about this and the only possible way for a lefty to play guitar is

1. Get a left handed guitar (very rarely available and expensive)
2. Reattach the strings upside down.
3. Force yourself to use your right hand.

I tried force myself using right hand and it seemed my brain and hand not working in harmony as if my mind and hand were working separately.

It is very disappointing to know that not so much emphasis were given to lefthanded people in guitar playing.
