No iPad app made by Facebook?

I am surprised that there is no iPad application made by Facebook officially. The best free facebook application I have seen is Friendly which i often use it in my ipad to connect to Facebook.

The Facebook application though available for iPhone though can run in iPad it can’t switch to full screen size for iPad. I am hoping that soon Facebook will come up with official iPad application.

Let’s wait and watch.

iWork pages application has no landscape keyboard in iPhone 4

It surprises me everytime my iWork pages application doesn’t show a widescreen keyboard , when I tilt my iPhone 4 sideways. There is no widescreen keyboard and widescreen view.

This is really making me uncomfortable typing because I love typing in widescreen in landscape keyboard. I am quite disappointed despite for this application and not having this feature.

I am really not sure this problem is with my iPhone 4 or with the pages application itself. I have used many free typing applications for iPhone like documents and it very well supports landscape keyboard when you tilt the iPhone.

How to export iPhone contacts to Nokia/Blackberry or any Phone!

If you have iphone contacts and you want to transfer them to another phone (Nokia, Blackberry), here is how to do it. Typically you will need to convert to CSV from macbook address book and then export accordingly.

Here everything can be done in just few steps:

1. First sync your iphone to your macbook address book. Make sure all your contact phone numbers are upto date.

2. Export your Address book contacts (select all of them), then export to .vcf

3. Go to http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/ then convert your .vcf to CSV or whatever format you want. Download the file, it can be CSV or LDIF.

4. Finally, export to outlook in windows, open outlook express > address book, then import the contacts. This way if you are exporting to nokia phone, you can easily sync your contacts to nokia pc suite software. Just click synchronize contacts and all is done in one step.

It took a whole day to figure this out and exporting contacts isnt that easy.

iPhone contacts lost? Here is how to Restore Backup!

I am sharing here a frightening experience with iphone today. I screwed up with my iphone and as a result i lost over 1000 contacts in my iphone and thankfully over 90% of it i restored. iTunes application will always create a backup of your iphone whenever you plug to it and it usually stores 5-10 backups everytime.

I was trying to populate the address box in my macbook PC with the contacts from my iphone and what happened was the contacts with PC overwritten my iphone contacts, as a result i lost important contact numbers.

The blunder was, i clicked replace info, which was the reason for the contacts being overwritten from PC. Never never do this, but go with “Merge Info”

How to Restore iPhone Backups

Whenver you plug your iphone to itunes, thankfully itunes automatically creates a backup data. BUT, all the backups are encrypted and in order to restore a backup, it will prompt for password. If you forget password, there is no way to restore this backup. To get around this you will need to uncheck encrypt backup password in Iphone > summary > options. This is a must and dont avoid it.

Here is how you can view and restore backups…

Step 1.

Go to itunes > Preferences > Devices > Iphone and you will see a list of backups below:

Step 2:

Right click on the itunes > Your iphone (look the left), there you will see an option for restore backup:

Go ahead and follow the steps to restore your iphone to previous state. This way is the easiest.

Step 3:

There is another way using mobile me. You can also use mobile me in your iphone to sync your contacts. Tap on iphone settings > Mail, contacts calendars > mobileme account > turn contacts on

and see if that works.

Always maintain backup of your iPhone contacts either your outlook or PC address book or in gmail. This way you are not putting all eggs in one basket.

How to change APN settings for iPhone 4?

I was struggling accessing internet with my iphone 4 and got so frustrated often looking at “you are not subscribed to cellular data service”. Basically accessing internet in my new iphone was cut off and calling customer service never worked. My iphone 4 was new model and not locked to any service provider and you are free to insert any simcard you want. I never unlocked it either.

I wanted to change APN settings but since i updated my iphone to iOS 4, i couldnt find any option under cellular data to change APN settings.

If you want to change APN in your iphone, here is how you do it.

1. Download the iPhone configuration utility for Windows/Mac. Its free

2. Create a new profile give a name, and under advanced enter APN settings of your provider. Then install the new profile on your iphone and it will appear under settings. Thats it, under your new profile, your APN settings will be activated.

iPhone isnt loud during phonecall

I hate to say this but nowadays most expensive mobile phones aren’t able to meet the most basic requirement of a mobile phone. That is loudness and voice clarity during phone call. No matter what we maximise the volume it just seem impossible to hear in busy streets. This is my personal experience with iPhone and blackberry. May be we are too much into apps in our phone.

From what I have seen even a $60 nokia or samsung phone, is way better with voice clarity and with maximum loudness.

Not sure how many have felt this.

Is iPhone 4 slippery?

The first impression I had when I got iPhone 4 black is it’s too soft skinny and I felt always slippery and couldnt hold it properly with my hands, especially when with wet hands. Besides the gorgeous design slippery is a concern to me and it’s my personal experience.

Nonetheless I resolved the issue buying a bumper or a iPhone case having a grip.

IPhone 4 not detected by iTunes in MacBook

I had this issue my new iPhone 4 wasnt detected at all when plugged into my MacBook running iTunes. I tried changing the cable but nothing worked.

Finally I did update of my MacBook OSX then viola, it worked!

Downloading 1 GB update finally worth it. So if you run into this problem make sure you update your iTunes and OSX to latest versions.

iPhone metal case cover drops signal

I am sharing the experience I had with my iPhone 4. Having recently bought a beautiful aluminum metal case, I noticed that iPhone signal always goes down and never got full strength. Because of poor signal reception often the calls drop and slow Internet speeds.

Whats strange is as soon as I removed the metal iPhone case, I absolutely had no problems whatsoever and the signal indicator gets back to full strength. This made me believe that the culprit for poor signal reception is the metal casing. I was initially blaming iPhone antenna design. Oh by the way i am a left-hander.

So, if you experience poor reception, frequent call drops or low Internet speeds make sure you stay away from metal cases.

How to Import contacts from Blackberry to iPhone

I recently got iPhone 4 replacing blackberry storm and I needed wanted to import all my phone contacts from blackberry to iPhone.

Here is an easy way to do it.

1. Start blackberry desktop manager, go to synchronisation and select export option and export contacts to CSV file.

2. If you have a Mac, open your address book, import all your contacts from your CSV file.

3. Finally, start iTunes select contacts in the options under iPhone and sync it.

That’s it, you should be able to see all your contacts from blackberry imported to iPhone.
