If you havnt heard about couch surfing (CS http://www.couchsurfing.org) , being a traveler, it is high time to know about it. CS is pretty much a open initiative to travel free. Its like you stay in home of local people home for free, rather than staying at hostel or a hotel. Money is not involved but only kindness and hospitality with home cooked food. Some are very kind to show me the city and important places I have had a great experience in CS and often when i stay at somebody else home, a new place, a new country you get to know a lot of local traditions and culture.
Having been a crazy traveler myself, i always wanted to meet local people when i go to a new country, along with sightseeing and visiting important monuments and places. I felt that in travel you are always missing something if you dont meet local people and CS is a great way of meeting such local people through various CS meetings taking place in every city you travel. Of course! if you dont like you are free to stay in hotels but still you are free to go and participate in CS meetings.
If you feel lonely during travel, CS will be a great find for you to meet people, wherever you are!
