According to the news report by Independent Malta, Justice minister announced that total 578 foreign nationals applied for Malta Individual Investor program (aka Malta IIP) in 2015, of which 201 applications were approved of Citizenship.
EU/EEA citizens are also eligible to apply under the IIP program. It is not clear from the above numbers how many EU and non-EU citizens applied.
Malta IIP is capped to 1800 applications after that this scheme will be permanently closed.
Malta grants citizenship to talented and wealthy foreign entrepreneurs and investors who can invest around €900,000 in 12 months. Maltese citizenship program is the first citizenship programme in the European Union to be recognized by the European Commission. According to 2016 Henley & Partners visa restrictions index, Malta passport is ranked 9th best in the world with visa-free access to 168 countries in the World.
There is an optional provision to purchase a real estate worth € 350,000 which has to be done on top of the original € 900,000 investment in Malta.
We believe, Malta will receive over 1000 applications in 2016 under the IIP because of the global demand for passport programs. This will fill up 90% of 1800 proposed quota by end of 2016. We anticipate by 2017 this Maltese passport program should close permanently.
