EU/EEA citizens and their family members can apply for Maltese citizenship under the Individual Investor Programme (IIP). This is a quick solution for wealthy EU citizens to acquire second citizenship in Malta within 12-15 months, rather than naturalizing (takes 6 years of living).

No requirement to live or take up residency in Malta for 12 months. EU citizens can hold more than one citizenship after having been naturalised as a Maltese citizen.

Under the Maltese IIP, the following investment conditions has to be satisfied:  €650,000 (non-refundable) to Malta Development Fund, and,  €150,000 purchase of Bonds (refundable after 5 years) and €350,000 real estate purchase (optional)

Once all the investment requirements are fulfilled and the Certificate of Naturalisation has been issued, the Maltese citizenship granted would be considered as permanent. The expected time frame is 12-15 months. No citizenship tests, no maltese language requirement, no military service.

Malta Individual Investor Programme  is open to nationals of all countries.  However, applications from countries where international sanctions apply may not be accepted.

Any new children born to naturalised parents after the date quoted in “Naturalization certificate” automatically become Maltese citizens.

EU/EEA/Swiss citizens cannot apply for Global Residency Program in Malta, which grants only residency to foreign nationals, who buy a real estate worth €275,000 euros
